Occ Summary

Contribute to the achievement of the DUHS mission through the development and leadership of performance improvement activities in the operational and/or clinical arenas. Assure continual compliance with regulations and accreditation standards through monitoring activities and the design and implementation of strategies to enhance compliance.

 

 

Work Performed

 

Plan, manage and coordinate special maintenance, construction, renovation and/or repair projects for buildings, grounds and facilities to ensure efficiency and compliance with project specifications. Includes Preparing cost estimates of renovations and special projects; determine quality and quantity of materials, supplies and manpower required; assist in managing specifications for materials and workmanship to be utilized by contractors or in-house tradesmen in all phases of the project.

Serves as project manager for various facility related installations and assigned construction projects.  Reviews scope of projects and coordinates with contractors and hospital staff to ensure that activities are planned to reduce the risk to quality delivery of hospital/clinic services. 

Serve as the hospital's Sustainability Champion responsible for spearheading the organizations sustainability efforts.

Maintain liaison between Duke Facilities, Planning, Design, and Construction personnel and contractors on assigned projects; assist users in determining priorities for changes during construction or renovation

Works closely with Engineering for coordination and implementation of complex maintenance activities and construction related utility outages.  

Inspect construction and/or renovation projects to ensure that procedures followed and materials used comply with specifications, contracts and/or instructions

Utilizes computer aided design software for space layouts and updates hospital construction specifications. Coordinates with Engineering trades for necessary approvals of materials and any changes to specifications.

Maintain records of construction and inspection activities.  Update and retain record drawings and other construction documentation.  

Identifies areas for improved performance within the Facilities.  Works to design and implement strategies for sustained success. Perform other duties incidential to the work descibed here in.

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field of study

 

Experience

 

Minimum of 5 years work experience, including 3 years of experience with significant responsibility for performance/ process improvement. Experience leading work teams required. Experience can be supplemented with Master's degree with a Masters being equivalent to two years of experience.

 

Work requires two years experience in healthcare construction, construction management or project administration.  Prior training, certification and experience in the following areas strongly preferred: project management, construction management, and experience utilizing computer aided design software.
