Occ Summary

Perform and evaluate diagnostic and therapeut icclinical procedures asdefined in the Respiratory Care Services scope o fclinical practice,performing work inaccordance with physician orders i nthe neonatal,pediatric and adult patient populations.

Perform all duties and responsibilities required of aRe spiratory CarePractitioner I.Evaluate appropriateness of medicalorders.P roficient in the application of mechanical ventilatormodalities.Proficie nt in the application of Non-InvasivePositive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV ); Continuous Positive AirwayPressure (CPAP) and Bi-Level Positive Airwa y Pressure(BiPAP)Perform endotracheal intubation under the observationof a Supervisor or Advanced Practitioner. Performextubations.Serve as membe r of the code/ emergency team.Administer medical gases.Insert nasogastri c and orogastrictubes.Perform tracheotomy tube changes. Perform capnogra phymonitoring.Transport patients requiring mechanical ventilationor airw ay protection.Interpret clinical data to optimizepatient clinicalobjecti ves.Participate in clinical rounds withphysicians, nurses and otherhealt h care providersAssist withBronchoscopy. Assist with orientation and tra ining of Level IIRT.Assure safe operations of devices in theMRI.Qualifie d for certification in the hyperbaric chamber ifapplicable to the instit ution scope of practice


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions andintera ction relative to the specific age of a patient.Skillsvalidation/certifi cation of competencies for the duties andresponsibilities requiredfor a Level I RT.Skills validation /certifications of competencies for the dut ies and responsibilities ofthis level.Work involves contact with patient s of all ages, familymembers, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the health careteam.Work is performedin all areas of the hospital.Wo rk mayrequire lifting or pushing in excess of 30 pounds.Requiredto carry emergency airway bag weighing approximately 20 pounds.Work requireswalki ng, running, climbing and bending.Customer service andcommunication expe rtise.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Completion of a 2 year AMA approved respiratory care program requirements (Associates Degree or the equivalent). Must maintain annual skill maintenance requirements Must maintain annual safety/compliance Must maintain NorthCarolina annual license requirements for CEUs


Experience

Six months to one year of clinical experience following graduation from a respiratory care program.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

North Carolina State Licensure Registry ( RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRPS) if applicable to institution
