JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Referral Specialist (Patient Service Associate) to be part of a multifunctional team charged with the responsibility of providing efficient access and professional service to Duke Health and other entities. Position also involves customer service, message distribution, obtain and verify insurance information and scheduling.  

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process provider & patient referral requests from work queues. Contact other practices/specialists, insurances, use websites, and check insurance benefits to obtain authorizations as needed. Manage referral phone line. Process Maestro Care In-Basket messages for referral requests including staff messages.
  • Verify and update patient demographic and insurance data during the check in process. Collect and post co-payments and balances on accounts due. Assist with walk in requests. Obtain and scan COA/ HIPPA/Medicare documents to the patient’s charts. Check-out patients and schedule follow ups as needed. Coordinate all labs/procedures as requested. Follow correct process for patients obtaining prescriptions, forms, and other patient documents. Daily closing of cash drawer.
  • Answer patient calls, transfer accordingly, send messages and schedule appointments. Utilize Jabber when necessary.
  • Process  faxes and distribute accordingly.
  • Scanning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally acquired through high school education.

  • Minimum of one year of work experience in directly communicating and providing service to patients or public; preferably in a healthcare related field. Experience in effectively coordinating multiple tasks or activities.

 

JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
