Occ Summary
Perform routine histopathological tests in a clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.
Work Performed
Perform routine and special paraffin section s of surgical and autopsytissue for microscopic examination in the diagn osis and treatment ofdisease.Examine and describe routine surgical speci mens for histologicpreparation.Prepare equipment and reagents for proces sing, embedding, microtomecutting and mounting of tissue; perform routin e and special stainingtechniques.Label, file, discard and maintain recor ds of tissue samples andcontainers, tissue processing cassettes, final p araffin blocks andslides.Label and record slides of specimens received; provide specimens formicroscopic examination and diagnosis by the pathol ogist.Obtain and log specimens from the operating rooms and other areas asrequired.Perform frozen cryostat sectioning.Set up equipment, instrume nts, reagents and apparatus for specificlaboratory techniques.Perform va rious Quality Control procedures to maintain compliance withinternal and external regulations.Utilize various hospital information systems and s oftware.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described he rein.

Demonstrated competency in histological laboratory skills. Ability to perform assigned tasks on routine and special material.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelors of Science/Bachelor of Arts in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology.
Must meet the CLIA/CAP Education Requirements established to perform high complexity testing.
Minimum educational or experience requirements may be modified on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendmen) director as long as minimal CLIA requirements are met by the employee for the tasks being performed
Experience
One year lab experience with BS/BA in Science.
No experience needed for NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences) Program.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Certification Eligible (must obtain HTL certification in 18 months (about 1 and a half years)).
