JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Service Access Manager (Surgery Scheduling Manager) to be responsible for assisting surgeons and surgery schedulers in the day-to-day management of the surgery scheduling process for the Practice.  This position involves surgery schedulers, prior authorizations, FMLA, and disability process.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages surgery schedulers, prior authorization, pre-certification, FMA/Disability
  • Assist with surgical procedure coding before the procedure is scheduled to ensure correct authorizations are obtained
  • Participates as a member of the management team in a collaborative and professional manner
  • Assists other managers in achieving success with the surgery scheduling and authorization process
  • Attends all meetings as required
  • Responsible for working with various ASCs, hospitals, and other provider offices to ensure appropriate surgeries, tests, and treatments are provided for patients
  • Interface with physicians to ensure proper and timely scheduling of cases
  • Responsible for providing staff with the coding, billing, and education for surgery procedures necessary to complete their job tasks in an effective manner
  • Responsible for the prior authorization process, and assist with coding questions to obtain prior authorization
  • Review surgery posting sheets, code if appropriate
  • Review all scheduled surgery cases for accuracy and completeness
  • Release surgery block OR times at Cone Health facilities
  • Work with Cone Health on OR grid and preference cards for specific surgeries
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes to colorectal and rectal cases
  • Assign OR dates and times for colorectal, bariatric, and robotic cases
  • Work with physicians on specific surgery dates and times as required
  • Manage the FMLA/Disability process to be as efficient as possible
  • Manage the prior authorization process to ensure proper authorization for both surgeons and, when appropriate, healthcare facilities are provided
  • Responsible for appropriate referral and scheduling reports through Maestro and by physician or HCA requests
  • Provides backup for vacating staff or absences
  • Assists with applicant interviews for the open positions for surgery scheduling, prior authorization, and FML/disability positions
  • Review timecards and approve as necessary

 

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma required. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is strongly preferred. 
  • Requires six years of experience of a progressive nature in a healthcare setting to become knowledgeable of the complex activities associated with healthcare services. An Associate's degree may substitute for two years of experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in the surgery scheduling and prior authorization process.
  • Must have a basic understanding of federal, state, and insurance guidelines.

 

JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
