Summary:  Established in 2002 as a research and education center based at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) prepares leaders and organizations with the business skills needed to achieve lasting social change.

 

For more than 15 years, CASE has trained and supported thousands of students, organizations, funders, government agencies, and researchers to help define, connect theory and practice, and propel the ideas of social entrepreneurship and impact investing into the robust fields they are today. As the Center looks ahead, it remains obsessed with one question: How do leaders sustainably scale social solutions?  From training the next generation of talent to creating dynamic tools and trainings, CASE is committed to doing all it can to help.

 

The Writer & Marketing Coordinator must be an excellent writer and editor, able to synthesize complex information in to clear and compelling content across multiple platforms including web, social media, blog posts, and written reports. S/he should have the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and a variety of stakeholders. Finally, s/he must have high attention to detail, creativity, integrity, rigor, and accuracy.  The Coordinator will work closely with all CASE personnel and will directly report to CASE’s Managing Director with additional oversight from CASE’s Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities

Develop and Disseminate Digital and Written Content

  • Conceptualize, propose and write clear and compelling communications for CASE initiatives. This may include press releases, advertising campaigns, web content, summary articles, and more for a wide variety of CASE projects and products such as Scaling Pathways, the CASE i3 Initiative on Impact Investing, CASE Smart Impact Capital, and executive education offerings.
  • Manage and expand CASE’s social media presence (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) to maintain and build CASE’s reputation as a highly respected and trusted voice of what matters in social impact. This requires the coordinator to communicate about CASE’s own work and source material from other thought leaders and partners in the fields of social impact and impact investing. 
  • Produce CASE blog, including sourcing (through students, guests, CASE team, and own writing), managing the submission of, creating, editing, and regularly updating content relevant to CASE stakeholders and other target audiences.
  • Manage and develop content for monthly e-newsletters, increasing subscription over time. 
  • Produce brochures, infographics, bulletins, alumni profiles, website content, and other marketing collateral to describe and market CASE goals, programs, and events.
  • Support CASE Executive Director and CASE Faculty Director in writing for CASE blog and external publications, and in speech / external event preparation. This includes ghost writing, drafting initial content, and editing content initiated by others.
  • Utilize content to market CASE offerings across platforms to key student and/or professional audiences.
  • Track communications analytics to ensure that CASE is effectively communicating with target audiences.  Suggest and make improvements as needed.

External and Internal Relationship Management

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders within Duke to ensure CASE messages are being shared and align with internal stakeholders’ needs.
  • Research and develop relationships with external stakeholders including media outlets, conference organizers, and partners to place CASE work.
  • Coordinate and work closely with external vendors / contractors that may assist with graphic design, copy editing, website development, multimedia content creation, and/or events management, as needed.
  • Utilize networks to promote events and disseminate CASE thought leadership.

General Center Support

  • Provide additional ad-hoc project management and coordination as needed.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

  • Support and contribute to other team priorities as needed, including execution of events, projects, etc.

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Strong writing portfolio that demonstrates a flair for storytelling and an ability to write for different audiences and platforms.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, communicate progress with critical stakeholders, and work collaboratively on a rigorous team with constantly shifting priorities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a constant feedback loop and high standards and that embraces ongoing learning and refinement.
  • Utmost professionalism and ability to interact effectively with a range of constituents, including undergraduate and graduate students, government officials, executive level business leaders, nonprofit executives, donors, faculty, and staff at all levels.
  • Experience with AP style and ability to adhere to the Duke University editorial guidelines.
  • Expertise in or willingness/capacity to learn various software applications and web-based tools such as, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite ,Salesforce, Basecamp, iContact, and Google Analytics.   
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in support of events and program delivery.
  • Demonstrated interest in social impact

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

 

Experience

 

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.

 

STRONGLY PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or related field; 3 years of relevant experience in communications.
