Position reports to the Associate Dean, Marketing & Communications and works closely with the Nicholas marketing & communications team.

 

Job Overview

 

The Video/Multimedia Communications Specialist is responsible for capturing and documenting events, students, faculty and alumni through video in support of the marketing and digital strategy of the Nicholas School, bringing the School to life for the promotion of our programs and research, while also supporting recruitment efforts. This position is also responsible for identifying, researching, creating and editing story ideas as part of the Marketing & Communications team.

 

Responsibilities

  • Generate opportunities that support the Associate Dean of Marketing & Communications’ desire for marketing materials to be more visual.
  • Research and determine story opportunities and angles.
  • Utilize visual story telling skills to demonstrate the importance of environmental impacts.
  • Contribute ideas and skills towards bringing the student experience to life
  • Envision, create, produce and edit video and motion graphics projects.
  • Coordinate all elements of a video shoot and manage accordingly, including locations, scheduling participants, sound, lighting, production and editing.
  • Coordinate production of artwork to include titles and animations.
  • Write interview questions, story outlines and scripts.
  • Deliver multimedia projects on time to meet deadlines.
  • Create timely content for digital screens.
  • Actively participate in team creative brainstorming.
  • Keep abreast of new trends and creative ways to tell stories using a variety of media.
  • Work in concert with the social media director, art director and director of digital strategy to provide visual content that supports their projects.
  • Represent the Nicholas School brand in all materials.
  • Manage all projects using Asana.
  • Coordinate review and sign offs in a timely manner.
  • Manage digital content archive.
  • Maintain inventory of video supplies and equipment; evaluate potential new equipment, provide routine maintenance on photographic, sound and related equipment.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

Education/Training

Work requires communication and marketing skills normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in a related field. 

 

Experience

Work generally requires one year related experience in advertising, marketing, media, promotions or public relations.

OR AN EQUIVALENT OR COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

Skills

 

Desired Skills

Work requires at least two years of experience (in or out of school) in media production, including at least one year of cinematography or video experience. Experience with scheduling, production, contracting professional services, directing location shooting, lighting, sound recording, editing and various other related technical duties. Good communications skills and active participation in team-based planning and strategy preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with a video camera and editing platforms a must. Education and/or experience with animation or motion graphics a plus.
