UTILITY OPERATOR I*

Occupational Summary: Work Performed:Perform other related dutiesissu esensureOperates steam boilers, chilled water systems, pumping systems, andauxiliary equipment tosafe, reliable, andefficient plant operation; m onitor HVAC and electrical systems•Cleans and maintains equipment and w ork areas• Monitors equipment, conduct rounds and maintains records of e quipmentoperationalstatus• Locally operate steam boilers, chilled water systems, pumpingsystems, and auxiliaryequipment atthe direction ofthe control room operatoror superiors• Perform lock-out/tag-out of equipment f or maintenance personnel •Remains current on all changesin operating pro cedures, new equipment, and related systems• Assist mechanics and techni cians as required/directed to troubleshoot• Assist other operators as re quired/directed.• Assists in observation and monitoring of electrical sy stems • Assistsin plantequipment training• Locate major branches, valves , piping systems and lines totroubleshoot plant ordistribution problems• Use computer software applicable to operations• Perform basic calculati ons and conversions• Perform chemical testing and analysis of process wa ter and maintainproper chemicallevels withindesign limits• Maintain chem ical logs accurately and legibly• Provide technical guidance and directi on to lower level personnel •incidental to the work above

Experience

Work requires three years experience in operatin g utility systemsequipment, facilities or distribution systems. Must pas s the Basic DukeUtility Systems Operations Test within 6 months of enter ing positionOR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EX PERIENCE

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's license.Must earn a forklift certificati on within 6 months of entering position.
