Introduction: OIT Communications Infrastructure is looking for a Telecommunications & Security Installation Technician to join our team. This role is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the essential infrastructure that supports Duke University's communication and security systems.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Verified 5+ years of experience in communications installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience working on new commercial building and major commercial renovation construction job sites.
- A valid NC driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs as part of normal job duties.
- Periodic overtime and/or weekend work to meet project commitments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical College/Trade School education or equivalent of five years industry experience.
- OTDR fiber testing and fiber fusion splicing experience.
- DAS related coaxial terminating/testing experience.
- Ability to read construction blueprints/drawings.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces, communication rooms, patient, administrative, research, and student areas within the University and Medical Center.
- Moderate lifting, use of hand tools, pulling cable in ceilings/walls, and working on ladders.
- Work performed on active construction work sites alongside all other construction trades.

- Onsite. The work is performed on-site or at a designated assignment location.

Essential Job Duties:
- Install, terminate, test, and label various Cat6A and Singlemode fiber cabling.
- Install WiFi access points.
- Install IP-based video surveillance cameras.
- Install card access readers/controllers.
- Install DAS related passive devices.
- Work closely with various departments and outside contractors across campus as part of construction projects.
- Collaborate with the OIT network engineering group, Duke University Police Department, etc.
