Occ Summary

Perform a variety of technical, environmen tal, and patient care dutiesunder the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. These duties areperformed in accordance with established hospita l andnursing policyand within the legal scope of practice for the unlice nsedcaregiver.


Work Performed

Level IVerify patient location and identification.Transferand/or assist patients during transp ort,following departmental safetyguidelines.Communicate with patients and respond to patientneeds promptly, satisfy needs or refer their request s toappropriate personnel.Keep charge nurse informed of room statusand a ttendant availability.Assist in the orientation of newstaff as requested bynurse manager or designee.Provideemergency assistance as required and /ordirected by surgeon and/ornursing personnel.Transport specimen, equip ment, etc. toappropriate area in safe and efficient manner.According to theplan of care developed by the RN, deliver patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served.Successfully complete annualself-instruct ional unit regarding age appropriate care for the infant,toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatricpatients.Prepare the unit for cases/ proc edures utilizingfunctional equipmentand supplies.Assist with positionin gthepatient and follow accepted procedures for preparation of patientsfo rsurgical procedures.Assist with wraps, casts, anddressings.Route non-fu nctional equipment to proper maintenancedepartment for repair, notingon equipment what the malfunction appearsto be.Assist in minor maintenance functions (i.e. replace lightbulbs in power sources and surgical lights) .Set up andtroubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of allequi pment inother services.Accurately andsafely use all patientpositioning devices and tables.Clean equipment, tables andfloor as requiredwithprope r cleaning solution.Collect, bagand remove soiled linen and trashproperl y.Replace suctionliners, trash bags and other supplies as needed.Returnc leanedequipment to appropriate area after the case.Stock and maite.Maint ain orderly work environment by keepingoperating rooms, storagentainadeq uate levels of supplies at scrub sink and sub rooms asappropriaareas, ha llways and all units clean, tidy andhazard free.Obtain and maintain unit supplies andequipment.Level IIPerform all duties of Level I inadditiont o the following:Serve as a resource and role modelfor SurgicalAttendants and others.Provide leadership andguidance to Surgical Attendants under thedirection of anRN.Assist with daily assignments in cooperation with unitmanagement representatives.Cooperate in planning orientation ofnewSu rgical Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback tomana gement representative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.Serv e as a resource and role model for SurgicalAttendants and others.Provide leadership and guidance toSurgical Attendants under the direction of an RN.Assist withdaily assignments in cooperation with unit managementrepr esentatives.Cooperate in planning orientation of newSurgical Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to management representa tive regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.


Knowledg e, Skills and Abilities

Level IBasic mechanical knowledge for as sembly of equipment andthe ability to comprehend and followinstructions. Education

Work requires basic mechanical knowledge for assemblyof equipment andthe ability to compre hend and follow instructions normally acquiredthrough a partial high sch ool education.


Experience

Level ISix months experien ce in a hospital setting or anequivalent combination of relevant educati on and/orexperience.Level IIThree years experience as SurgicalAttendant I, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/orexperience.< /p>

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Level ICurrent BCLS c ertification.Level IISame as LevelIplus, currently listed as a Nursing Assistant (NAI) with the NorthCarolina Division of Facilities Services w ith no substantiated findingsof abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of p roperty (preferred but notrequired).
