Occ Summary
Perform a variety of technical, environmental>, and patient care dutiesunder the direct supervision of a Registered Nurs e. These duties areperformed in accordance with established hospital and nursing policyand within the legal scope of practice for the unlicensedc aregiver.
Work Performed
Level IVerify patient locat ion and identification.Transferand/or assist patients during transport,f ollowing departmental safetyguidelines.Communicate with patients and res pond to patientneeds promptly, satisfy needs or refer their requests toa ppropriate personnel.Keep charge nurse informed of room statusand attend ant availability.Assist in the orientation of newstaff as requested bynu rse manager or designee.Provideemergency assistance as required and/ordi rected by surgeon and/ornursing personnel.Transport specimen, equipment, etc. toappropriate area in safe and efficient manner.According to thepl an of care developed by the RN, deliver patient care appropriate tothe a ge of the patients served.Successfully complete annualself-instructional unit regarding age appropriate care for the infant,toddler, child,adole scent, adult and geriatricpatients.Prepare the unit for cases/ procedure s utilizingfunctional equipment andsupplies.Assist with positioningthep atient and follow accepted procedures for preparation of patientsforsurg ical procedures.Assist with wraps, casts, anddressings.Route non-functio nal equipment to proper maintenancedepartment for repair, notingon equip ment what the malfunction appearsto be.Assist in minor maintenance funct ions (i.e. replace lightbulbs in power sources and surgical lights).Set up andtroubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of allequipment inother services.Accurately and safely use all patientpositioning devic es and tables.Clean equipment, tables andfloor as required withproper cl eaning solution.Collect, bagand remove soiled linen and trashproperly.Re place suctionliners,trash bags and other supplies as needed.Return cleanedequipment to appropriate area after the case.Stock and maintainadeain orderly work environment by keepingoperating rooms, storageareas, haquat e levels of supplies at scrub sink and sub rooms asappropriate.Maintllwa ys and all units clean, tidy andhazard free.Obtain and maintain unitsupp lies andequipment.Level IIPerform all duties of Level I inadditionto the following:Serve as a resource and role modelfor SurgicalAttendants and others.Provide leadership andguidance to Surgical Attendants underthe di rection of anRN.Assist with daily assignments in cooperation withunitman agement representatives.Cooperate in planning orientation ofnewSurgical Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to management representative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.Serve as a resource androle model for SurgicalAttendants and others.Provide leader ship and guidance toSurgical Attendants under the direction ofan RN.Assi st withdaily assignments in cooperation with unit managementrepresentati ves.Cooperate in planning orientation of newSurgical Attendants, under t he supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to management representative reg arding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.
Knowledge, Skill s and Abilities

Education
Work requires basic mechanical knowledge for assembly of equipment andthe ability to compre hend and follow instructions normally acquiredthrough a partial high sch ool education.
Experience
Level ISix months experien ce in a hospital setting or anequivalent combination of relevant educati on and/orexperience.Level IIThree years experience as SurgicalAttendant I, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/orexperience.< /p>
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Level ICurrent BCLS c ertification.Level IISame as Level Iplus, currently listed as a Nursing Assistant (NAI) with the NorthCarolina Division of Facilities Services w ith no substantiated findingsof abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of p roperty (preferred but notrequired).
