Primary Purpose
Perform responsible and professional security work to ensure the protection and safety of the Nasher Museum of Art’s staff, visitors, art collection, property and facilities while delivering excellent customer service. Strong attention to detail, communications, sound judgement and decision making skills and an ability to respond effectively in emergency situations is essential. This position reports directly to the Nasher Security Sergeant and indirectly to the Nasher Security Manager.

 

Essential Duties

  • Work closely with other Museum security staff to implement and maintain Museum security procedures, including fire/life safety protocols and medical incidents. 
  • Ensure all Museum visitors adhere to Museum protocols and policies by circulating through scheduled posts.
  • Maintain an alertness for suspicious activities (vandalism, theft), responding promptly to incidents and writing incident reports when necessary.
  • Provides excellent customer service while assisting visitors and staff by providing information and answering questions.
  • Assist with Museum opening and closing procedures and operating security video monitoring system.
  • Assist in working after hours events as needed.
  • Attend training and development sessions as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong desire to interact with the public and assist visitors from diverse backgrounds, being courteous, professional, patient, and respectful at all times.
  • Must be reliable, responsible, dependable and able to fulfill obligations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly speak and understand the English language (bi-lingual a plus).
  • Observant with the ability to exercise initiative and judgement in performing duties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to complete clear, concise, and accurate incident reports and other documentation.
  • Must be able to understand and utilize basic computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time and to climb stairs. Ability to work days and assist in late night, weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Minimum of 1-year related experience and/or training in security or museum-oriented field. Previous security experience in a museum environment preferred.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires communication and comprehension skills normally acquired through a high school education.

Experience

Minimum of 2 years related experience and/or training in a customer service oriented field. Previous security experience in a public environment preferred.
