Occ Summary

Perform a variety of technical, environmental , and patient care dutiesunder the direct supervision of a Registered Nu rse. These duties areperformed in accordance with established hospital a ndnursing policyand within the legal scope of practice for the unlicense dcaregiver.


Work Performed

Level IVerify patient loc ation and identification.Transferand/or assist patients during transport ,following departmental safetyguidelines.Communicate with patients andr espond to patientneeds promptly, satisfy needs or refer their requests t oappropriate personnel.Keep charge nurse informed of room statusand atte ndant availability.Assist in the orientation of newstaff as requested by nurse manager or designee.Provideemergency assistance as required and/or directed by surgeon and/ornursing personnel.Transport specimen, equipme nt, etc. toappropriate area in safe and efficientmanner.According to th eplan of care developed by the RN, deliver patient care appropriate toth e age of the patients served.Successfully complete annualself-instructio nal unit regarding age appropriate care for the infant,toddler, child,ad olescent, adult and geriatricpatients.Prepare the unit for cases/ proced ures utilizingfunctional equipmentand supplies.Assist with positioning thepatient and follow accepted procedures for preparation of patientsfor surgical procedures.Assist with wraps, casts, anddressings.Route non-fun ctional equipment to proper maintenancedepartment for repair, notingon e quipment what the malfunction appearsto be.Assist in minor maintenance f unctions (i.e. replace lightbulbs in power sources and surgical lights). Set up andtroubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of allequip ment inother services.Accurately and safely use all patientpositioning d evices and tables.Clean equipment, tables andfloor as required withprope r cleaning solution.Collect, bagand remove soiled linen and trashproperl y.Replace suctionliners, trash bags and other supplies as needed.Return cleanedequipment to appropriate area after the case.Stock and maintainad equate levels of supplies at scrub sink and sub rooms asappropriate.Main tain orderly work environment by keepingoperating rooms, storageareas, h allways and all units clean, tidy andhazard free.Obtain and maintain uni t supplies andequipment.Level IIPerform all duties of Level I inaddition to the following:Serve as a resource and role modelfor SurgicalAttendan ts and others.Provide leadership andguidance to Surgical Attendants unde r the direction of anRN.Assist with daily assignments in cooperation wit h unitmanagement representatives.Cooperate in planning orientation ofnew Surgical Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to management representativeregarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.S erve as a resource and role model for SurgicalAttendants and others.Prov ide leadership and guidance toSurgical Attendants under the direction of an RN.Assist withdaily assignments in cooperation with unit managementr epresentatives.Cooperate in planning orientation of newSurgical Attendan ts, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to management represe ntative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.


Knowl edge, Skills and Abilities

Education

Work requires basic mechanical knowledge for assembly of equipment andthe ability to compre hend and follow instructions normally acquiredthrough a partial high sch ool education.


Experience

Level ISix months experien ce in a hospital setting or anequivalent combination of relevant educati on and/orexperience.Level IIThree years experience as SurgicalAttendant I, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/orexperience.< /p>

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Level ICurrent BCLS c ertification.Level IISame as Level Iplus, currently listed as a Nursing Assistant (NAI) with the NorthCarolina Division of Facilities Services w ith no substantiated findingsof abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of p roperty (preferred but notrequired).
