The Plant Accounting Department within Duke University Financial Services is seeking a Financial Services Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will lead and coordinate core accounting functions that support capital equipment acquisitions, depreciation, disposals, and financial reconciliation for Duke University and Duke University Health System.

You will guide a team responsible for ensuring accurate reporting of fixed assets, managing capital classifications, resolving discrepancies, supporting research and clinical operations, and maintaining the integrity of Duke’s financial systems. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys leading teams, solving complex accounting challenges, and collaborating across a large and diverse institution. 


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a directly related field
  • Four years of progressive experience in an accounting or financial services environment
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile financial data, research discrepancies, and apply accounting principles
  • Ability to work closely with departments across Duke, including DUHS corporate finance, ASM, and Plant Accounting audit teams
  • Ability to manage month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end closing processes, depreciation posting, and SAP fixed‑asset functions

  • Manage and supervise the team responsible for reviewing capital equipment purchase orders, determining capital eligibility, and assigning appropriate depreciation terms
  • Oversee reconciliation of the SAP fixed asset sub-ledger for all Duke University funds with capital equipment expenses
  • Monitor equipment acquisitions across DUHS company codes; classify acquisitions and coordinate with DUHS personnel to resolve issues
  • Coordinate reporting and analysis for all Asset Under Construction (AUC) projects and monitor spending with principal investigators
  • Run and post monthly depreciation; research and correct discrepancies
  • Conduct routine SAP testing in partnership with Administrative Systems Management (ASM)
  • Review specialized asset categories such as library books and gifts‑in‑kind for appropriate financial classification
  • Plan and schedule team assignments, distribute workloads, train staff, and communicate policy changes
  • Lead hiring, performance evaluation, promotion, transfer, and scheduling processes for team members
  • Perform additional duties related to accounting operations as assigned

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,535.00 to USD $95,880.00.
