Position Summary:

The Development Analyst for Research and Constituency Development in Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs will perform a variety of data analyses to support the fundraising goals of the Duke Health schools and units, including the Duke University Health System, the School of Medicine, and the School of Nursing. This position will provide business intelligence to assist leadership with annual and long-term strategic planning, evaluation of program performance, and implementation of best practices to further fundraising performance.


Work Performed:


Data Analyses and Modeling - 60%

  • Design and conduct analysis of historical fundraising and gift officer performance data to inform strategic planning


  • Analyze and segment prospect pool for schools and units to maximize gift potential from alumni and friends using statistical tools and techniques, including data mining, predictive modeling, RFM scoring, geospatial analysis, and multivariate regression analysis.


  • Analyze solicitation and gift data to provide forecasts and projections of performance by campaign priorities, schools and units


  • Design and execute strategies to improve tracking and evaluation of gift officer and program performance.


Visual Presentations – 25%

  • Design and produce reports, charts, and graphs to present business intelligence to non-technical audiences in a meaningful and clearly understood format


  • Work with Vice President and other leadership to provide effective presentations to faculty, boards and volunteers on findings and recommendations from data analyses


  • Working with campus-wide team, develop, modify, and publish dashboards for schools, units and campaign priorities using Tableau


  • Prepare accurate, high-quality, timely reports and presentations which are well-conceived, well-written, and well presented



Data Collection and Quality Assurance – 15%

  • Collaborate with University Development IT staff to establish and maintain a clear understanding of the Duke Alumni and Development Database (DADD) structure, data tables, and access to all data using SQL and other DADD query tools


  • Identify and lead efforts to improve data collection


  • Identify and manage areas where data quality can be improved with audit reports and user training.


  • Benchmark peer institutions and industry standards


  • Recommend tools and best practices for improving prospect development and fundraising performance


  • Perform other related duties as assigned.




Advanced quantitative analysis skills with demonstrated ability to use technology to extract, analyze, interpret, organize, and present data that is complex and confidential in nature


Experience with database management and statistical analysis tools (e.g., SQL, SPSS, SAS, R, ArcGIS)


Proven organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously, accommodate shifting priorities, and meet short deadlines.


Excellent written/oral/interpersonal communication skills


Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite


Excellent customer service attitude and demonstrated ability to work with people with varying technical skills


Accuracy and attention to detail is essential


Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information and material in a discretionary manner.



Minimum Qualifications




Work requires a minimum of a Master's degree in statistics, (bio) statistics or related field and no relevant experience, or a Bachelors degree in statistics, (bio)statistics or related field and 2 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination or relevant education and/or work experience.
