Why This Role Matters

The Staff Specialist ensures the smooth operation of specialized programs and activities at Duke University. By planning, coordinating, and implementing systems aligned with organizational goals, this role supports efficiency, compliance, and collaboration across departments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in the establishment and operation of specialized programs or activities.
  • Develop and implement information systems to support program activities, ensuring accurate data reference, documentation, and evaluation.
  • Maintain liaison with University departments and external sources to provide and obtain pertinent information.
  • Compile and analyze program-related data; prepare reports highlighting progress, trends, and recommendations.
  • Plan and schedule work priorities to meet program goals and deadlines.
  • Distribute reports and information as required.
  • Advise supervisors on current activities, expanded program needs, and solutions to problems.
  • Assist in determining budgetary requirements; monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditures.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Two years of postsecondary education in mathematical, research, and communication principles.
    Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for education and experience requirements.
  • Experience: Two years of clerical or research experience in administrative or project responsibilities.
    Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Core Competencies: Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills; ability to manage priorities and deadlines.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $25.54. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's workexperience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Education

Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical, research and communications principles normally acquired through two years of postsecondary education.

 

Experience
