Job Summary
Looking for a hard-working individual who has completed an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry or Biology and wishes to do a gap year (or two) of research prior to seeking advanced degree or other job opportunity. The individual will work in the laboratory of Professor Schumacher in the Department of Biochemistry at Duke University, NC. The job entails purification of recombinant proteins and complexes for analyses either by biochemical methods, X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM. The individual will be expected to ethically collect data, keep an accurate and complete notebook, manage the data. And work closely with Dr. Schumacher The focus of the laboratory is on fundamental biological processes involving protein nucleic acid interactions, in particular as they relate to microbial pathogenesis. Specific areas currently under study include transcription, DNA segregation, kRNA editing and DNA organization. The laboratory has a strong publication record, publishing at least 4 papers every year, in high impact journals. The successful research technician candidate will contribute and be part of these publications.

Education
Work requires an Associate's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science related scientific field.

None required above education/training requirement OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Qualifications and Skills
The primary qualifications sought are a hard work ethic/perseverance and strong interest in basic science. However, candidates with laboratory experience, in particular protein expression and purification would be advantageous.
