The Duke Cancer Institute is seeking a Research Technician, II to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to launch your research career through a structured program that combines hands-on laboratory experience with professional development. You’ll work closely with a Duke Faculty mentor and a collaborative lab team to conduct meaningful research while building foundational skills in scientific writing, statistics, and career planning.
In this role, you’ll be part of a dynamic research environment, contributing to experiments and data analysis that support Duke’s cutting-edge scientific initiatives. You’ll also participate in peer mentoring and didactic lectures designed to prepare you for a successful future in research.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or other directly related scientific field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Knowledge of basic data collection and research principles.
Other Requirements:
- No prior experience required beyond educational qualifications.
- Must be responsible, reliable, and attentive to detail.

As a Research Technician, II, you will:
- Conduct physical, chemical, biological, and other laboratory tests and experiments to obtain data for research purposes.
- Compile, analyze, and document experimental results, drawing tentative conclusions.
- Collaborate with your faculty mentor and lab team to plan and execute research experiments.
- Maintain compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practices.
- Review scientific literature to inform experimental design.
- Participate in career development activities and perform other lab duties as assigned.

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $19.06 to USD $28.85. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
