The Glickfeld Lab in the Department of Neurobiology is seeking a full-time Research Technician for a position beginning in Fall 2026. The lab uses physiological and psychophysical approaches to understand how visual inputs are transformed into neuronal signals in the cortex and how this information is used to guide behavior. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate interested in gaining hands-on neuroscience research experience before pursuing medical school, graduate school, or a research career.

As a Research Technician, you will contribute to cutting-edge neuroscience research examining the neural mechanisms of visual processing and perception. You will work closely with laboratory members on projects involving animal models, behavioral experiments, physiological recordings, and data analysis. There will also be opportunities to develop and lead an independent research project.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Strong interest in neuroscience research and visual systems neuroscience.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous research experience working with laboratory animals.
• Experience with animal handling, husbandry, and surgical procedures.
• Experience with data collection and quantitative data analysis.
• Programming experience in MATLAB and/or Python.
• Interest in pursuing a future career in scientific research, medicine, or graduate education.

• Perform daily animal husbandry and maintain animal colonies.
• Assist with and perform laboratory surgical procedures and post-operative care.
• Collect physiological and behavioral data from experimental studies.
• Analyze research data using established and novel computational methods.
• Collaborate with faculty, trainees, and research staff to advance the laboratory’s scientific goals.
• Participate in presentations, publications, and scholarly activities.

• Pursue an independent research project based on interests and laboratory priorities.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $20.65 to USD $29.43.
