Occ Summary
Independently plan and provide professi onaWorking knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precauti onsl nursing carefor patients in accordance with physician orders and es tablished policies and
procedures. Provide nursi ngservices to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Work P erformed
Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursi ng care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with ph ysician orders and established policies and procedures.
Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
Assist o ther nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team l eader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assig ned.
Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintai nthe environment of care including equipment and material resources.
Participate in own professional development by maintainin g required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropri ate assistance or educational offerings.
Act asp receptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.
Participate in the identification of clinical or oper ational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improve ment activities.
Perform other related duties incident al to the work described herein.
Knowledge, Skills and Abili ties
Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practic al nurse and NCA.
Knowledge of and appropriateap plication of the nursing process. Knowledge of professional theory, prac tice and procedure.
Ability to assess nursingnee ds of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Abilityesta blish and maintain effective working relationships Ability to commuto in dependently seek out resources and work collaboratively. Ability tonicat e clearly with patients, families, visitors,healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others. Ability to teach patients and fa milies in accordance with the nursing plan of care. Ability to usesensor y and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatme nt, and follow-up.Ability to use fine motor skills. Competent in BLS and /or other specialized life support requirements designated by workarea. Ability to record activities, document assessments, plan of care,interve ntions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status. Ability to use c omputer and learn new software programs. Able to document and communicat e pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentationtools. Ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients. Ab ility to withstand prolonged standing and walking.Ability to remain focu sed and organized. Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involv ed in administering routine and special treatments to patients.. Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requ irements.

Education
Work requires gradua tion from an accredited BSN program.Exception: Registered nurses hired b etween July 1, 2014 and April 11,2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nur sing (or higher) are encouragedto enrollin an appropriate BSN program w ithin two years of their startdate but must complete the program within seven years of their startdate. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2 014 are not required toenroll in a BSN program to remain in this job cla ssification.
Experience
Applicants must meet all requ irements set forth by the DUHS NursingCareer Ladder Program for level II I.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Must have current o r compact RN licensure in the state of NorthCarolina. BLS required.
