Occ Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nu rsing care for patientsin accordance with physician orders and establish edpolicies andprocedures. Provide nursing services to patients and famil ies inaccordance with the scope ofthe RN as defined by the North Caroli naBoard of Nursing.


Work Performed

Plan, provide, sup ervise and document professional nursing careutilizing the nursing proce ssfor patients in accordance with physicianorders and established polici es and procedures. Use professional nursingjudgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of thepatient's baseline needs and resp onse to care.Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licens ed andunlicensed care providers.Assist other nursing personnel in the de livery of nursing care and actas team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unitas assigned.Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment ofcare including equipment and mater ial resources.Participate in own professional development by maintaining requiredcompetencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriat eassistance or educational offerings.Act as preceptor and support the de velopment of other staff and formallearners.Participate in the identific ation of clinical or operational performanceimprovement opportunities an d in performance improvement activities.Perform other related duties inc idental to the work described herein.

Education

Work requires gradua tion from an accredited BSN program.Exception: Registered nurses hired b etween July 1, 2014 and April 11,2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nur sing (or higher) are encouragedto enroll in an appropriate BSN program w ithin two years of their startdate but must complete the program within seven years of their startdate. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2 014 are not required toenroll in a BSN program to remain in this job cla ssification.


Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At amanager's discretion, employees wi th 6 months of experience who areexceptional performers may be eligible for this level.CN Is are eligible for promotion to CN II by meeting crit eria set forthby the DUHS Vizient Nurse Residency Program within 12 mont hs of hire.Promotions can occur at 12 months of hire, but no later than 18 monthsof hire.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of NorthCarolina. BL S required.
