Occ Summary

Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nur sing care for patientsin accordance with guidelines established within t he Discipline ofNursing Clinical Ladder Program; participate in educatio nal activities,departmental committees, research projects or other healt h relatedprojects as assigned. Provide nursing services to patients and familiesin accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North C arolinaBoard of Nursing.


Work Performed

Identify care needs for patient populations at the unit level. Provideleadership in t he development of standards of care, patient/familyeducation and staff e ducation to address the needs of specificpopulations.Participate in educ ational activities, departmental committees, researchprojects and other health-related projects as assigned.Provide direction and guidance in th e proper use, care and control ofmaterial resources; appraise quality an d effectiveness of material andequipment and communicateto responsible individuals.Anticipate potential safety concerns in the environment of c are andintervene.Guide the professional growth of others at the unit lev el throughprecepting, role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring.Provide l eadership at a unit level for initiatives designed to improvethe quality of care or clinical outcomes for populations of patients andgrowth of o thers.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described here in.

Leve l Characteristics

The Clinical Nurse III provides leadership at t he unit level. The CNIIIindependently andcreatively implements the nurs ing process forindividual patients and identifies needs and plans care f or unit patientpopulations. The CNIII is positive during changes and sup ports growth ofpeers. The CNIII is able to effectively communicate with all members ofthe health care team.

E ducation

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11,202 1 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouragedtoen roll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their startdate b ut must complete the program within seven years of their startdate. Regi stered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required toenroll in a B SN program to remain in this jobclassification.

Applicants must meet all requirements set forth by the DUHS Nursi ngCareer Ladder Program for level III.

Degrees, Licensures, Certi fications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of NorthCarolina. BLS required.
