RESEARCH TECHNICIAN III

OVERVIEW:
The Flow Cytometry Facility at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute is looking for a Research Technician III who will play in important role in providing flow cytometry services to the Duke research community. The facility possesses two BD analytical cytometers (Fortessa and LSRII) that are available for use by researchers. The Research Technician III will train new facility users on the independent use of these cytometers, and ensure proper management of cytometry data. The Research Technician III will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of these instruments, performing daily start-up and quality control, and ensuring adequate lab supplies. The technician will work with facility users and other facility staff to troubleshoot cytometer problems, and coordinate with external vendors for instrument service. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment for flow cytometry laboratory; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Perform daily startup/quality control (CS&T) and weekly cleans for BD flow cytometers.
- Train facility users in the independent use of BD analytical flow cytometers (Fortessa and LSRII).
- Manage cytometry data.
- Fully comply with appropriate Safety and Compliance SOPs.
- Perform other duties as requested by the laboratory manager/director.
WORK HOURS:
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Work generally requires skills acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science related scientific field program.
- Work requires two years of research experience
- Willing and able to:
- Work with hazardous biological agents handled at BSL2+
- Comply with vaccination requirements when necessary
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Experience in flow cytometry.
- Experience in Biosafety Level 2 containment.
