RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II

Alam Lab – Duke Human Vaccine Institute

 

The Alam Lab at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI) is recruiting for a Research Technician 2. DHVI is an interdisciplinary, interdepartmental institute dedicated to the study of basic and translational science required to understand host-pathogen interactions that can be translated to vaccines against human diseases. We are a team of highly interactive investigators that have expertise in immunology, molecular biology, virology, microbiology, structural biology, computational biology, and vaccine science. 

  

Responsibilities 

  

  • Perform protein interaction analysis by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and bio-layer interferometry (BLI). 
  • Perform chromatographic separation of protein and perform physico-chemical analysis including SDS-PAGE, native gel analysis. 
  • Assist and perform cell line culture and B cell activation studies. 
  • Assist in data analysis, experimental design and method development. 
  • Perform QC assays for purified proteins and antibodies on the SPR platform. 
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Principal Investigator or senior lab staff. 

  

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • BS in Biochemistry/Biology or related field 
  • Knowledge of cell culture, chromatographic (FPLC system), and protein characterization techniques is preferred 
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized and approach procedures with critical thinking of the technical aspects with strong communication skills and ability to work in an interactive team environment.  

  

Required Qualifications at this Level 

 

  • Education/Training: Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field. 
  • Experience: None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
