Research Technician II

Moody Discovery Laboratory

 

OVERVIEW:

The Moody Discovery Laboratory is looking for a research technician II to assist our efforts on a Collaborative Influenza Vaccine Innovation Centers CIVICs project focused on improving the seasonal influenza vaccine. This position is lab based and will include running immunological assays and assisting with protein production related to influenza research.  The Moody lab is part of DHVI which has a mission of performing research against infectious diseases that impact global health.  Our lab is located at RTP.  The Research Technician II will report directly to the Senior Research Laboratory staff.  Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree and prior research experience.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with protein production work flow tasks
    1. Collaborate with protein production team to fulfill protein requests
    2. Methods can include DNA transformation/ production/ purification, transfection of mammalian or insect cells, purification of proteins and validation of proteins.
    3. Documentation of methods in data base and production of certificates of testing

 

  1. Perform immunoassays for Influenza studies. 
    1. Assays may include but not limited to ELISA, ELLA and Blocking ELISA.
    2. Responsibilities will include planning, collecting and interpreting data following SOP’s.

 

  1. Contribute to work flow to characterize the B cell repertoire induced by influenza virus infection assisting with protein conjugations, flow cytometry, PCR, and small-scale transfections working closely with post doc or senior research scientist.

 

  1. Collaborate with computer analysists in the lab to develop software for Moody lab documentation, reporting and sample storage.  Experience with electronic lab notebooks.

 

  1. Contribute to general lab maintance activities
    1. Including but not limited to lab organization, ordering, maintaining lab inventory, updating SOP’s, updating assay cost analysis report, and lab safety.
    2. Present data to Moody Laboratory and program project teams in both written and oral updates.  Prepare reports as needed for project.

 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the PI or senior lab staff.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Bachelor’s level degree in biology or related field.  Research experience.  Must have proven organizational skills, communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  Experience with FlowJo andalysis software and GraphPad Prism software highly preferred.
