Position Summary:

 

A full-time Research Technician position is avai lable in Dr. Heather M. Stapleton’s environmental analytical laboratory.  Primary tasks include analysis oenvironmental and biological samples (e.g. drinking water, dust, serum,urine) for organic contaminants, and analytical instrument maintenance.  Additional responsibilities will include assisting researchers and graduate students with research projects and contributing to presentation and publication of research findings.

 

Primary responsibilities:

 

 

  • Collection of environmental samples (e.g. water, air, etc) in the field
  • Sample preparation techniques including solvent ex traction, column chromatography,solid phase extraction;
  • Operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation, (accelerat ed solvent extractors,gas chromatograph mass spectrometers, and high-performance liquid chromatograph);
  • Data analysis (e.g. data management and basic statistical analyses)

 

 Preferences

 

B.S.in chemistry or similar field with several years of experience in environmental or analytical chemistry.

 

Experience: Strong gasand/or liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry experience; experience with preparation of samples for chemical analysis and developing methods for sample preparation; experience in analyzing data and scientific writing.

 

Computer Skills: Micros oft Excel, Microsoft Access, mass spectrometry based software, statistical packages.

 

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Education

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
