JOB PURPOSE: Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Duke University research operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processing of human airway and mouse lung tissue samples; cell culture maintenance; Perform experiments with human and mouse cells in culture and process samples. Conduct cellular, RNA and protein assays
  • Maintain mouse colony and perform research animal procedures; Mouse husbandry, administration of experimental agents to mice, collection and processing of mouse tissues
  • Supervise and train work study or graduate student
  • General laboratory stock preparation, ordering of supplies; good record-keeping of supply inventory
  • Data recording, organization and analyses; preparation of quantitative assessments of data (figures, graphs, tables) for interpretation
  • maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies
  • General laboratory cleaning and maintenance

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience, Education and Licensure

Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, zoology or other related scientific field.

 

• Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents in English.

• Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply basic mathematical calculations as related to chemical solution preparation and experimental design.

• Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (Formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $19.06 to USD $28.85.
