Occupational Summary:

The Coyne laboratory at Duke University is seeking a highly-qualified and motivated person for the position of Research Technician II.

 

Work Performed:

  • Responsible for all laboratory inventory management and ordering.  Submits goods receipts and ensures packages are sent when appropriate.  This work is expected to be performed fully independently.          

 

  • Handle live mice to perform all colony management duties including, but not limited to, breeding, collection of samples for genotyping, weaning, aging, and sexing of pups, as well as retiring of mouse breeders Prepare dosages to deliver different drug treatments, biohazard chemicals, and viral capsids to live mice at different age groups through different delivery methods Sacrificing mice and processing of organs and tissues for analyses. Keep careful records by entering information on multiple databases including mLIMS.

 

  • Assist in virological end point assays for lab members. This includes, but is not limited to, viral load quantification via tissue culture infectious dose 50% assays (TCID50) and traditional plaque assays. The successful candidate will join an established team studying host-virus interactions. The position includes working under BSL-2 conditions consisting of virological-based end point assays for enterovirus research.

 

  • Maintenance of frequently used cell culture models (e.g., cell lines and/or organoids) for the lab. Prepares standard lab solutions, media, and bacterial culture plates. Performs general maintenance and equipment calibrations.  This work is expected to be done independently and the entire lab relies on this.     

 

  • Trains new technicians and graduate students and supervises their progress on standard laboratory procedures.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

 

Experience
