Occ Summary

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Duke University research operations.


Work Performed

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. Confer with the principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments. 

  • Process, dissect, and preserve brain tissue fora variety of experimental applications
  • Brain anatomy, brain sectioning and immunohistochemistry
  • Molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR
  • Protein biochemical methods including SDS-PAGE, western blot analysis
  • Imaging and confocal microscopy, quantification and analysis
  • Manage protocols, data and training of laboratory methods within lab and collaborators
  • Review scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments in the neurodegeneration and Parkinson’s disease field and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
