Occupational Summary 

Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting standardized tests, experiments and determinations in support of research-oriented activities at Duke University. 

Fully grant funded: A One Year Appointment with possible renewal 

 

Work Performed 

  • Perform physiological and behavioral tests and post-procedure care in rodents 
  • General animal transport, handling, and care 
  • General laboratory organization, maintenance, and ordering supplies 
  • Dissect and process rodent and human tissue, perform basic histology and biochemical assays 
  • Measure mitochondrial respiration and muscle contraction 
  • Analyze data, prepare graphs and figures 
  • Present results of experiments in group or individual meetings 
  • Maintain updated laboratory notebook and research records 

 

 

Required Qualifications at this Level 

 

Education/Training 

Work requires an Associate's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science related scientific field. 

 

Experience 

None required above education/training requirement 

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

 

Skills 

  • Basic knowledge of general anatomy, physiology, metabolism, and biochemistry. 
  • Follow protocols, SOPs, and maintain documentation of laboratory and administrative procedures in an organized and reproducible manner 
  • Willingness and ability to meet deadlines and work in a complex and fast-paced environment 
  • Computer skills with MS Office, GraphPad, SigmaPlot 
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of research projects and laboratory 
  • Work independently upon receiving training and as a part of a research team 
  • Willing to learn new techniques and adapt to the needs of research projects and laboratory
