Muzaffar Research Tech: Job Description

 

Dr. Muzaffar/Bari research is focused on microbial metabolomics and its cross talk with antitumor immune responses. Our work is translational evaluating the role of microbial metabolic pathways in mediating resistance to immunotherapy. We leverage clinical trials and patient samples as the cornerstone of our research and every endeavor in our lab is geared towards improving clinical outcomes for cancer patients. We are developing a metabolomics-based biomarker panel to predict responses to immunotherapy in solid cancers, thus advancing precision Oncology. Another area of interest is development of drugs to target microbial metabolic pathways that mediate resistance to immunotherapy, hence improving patients’ treatment response. Part of our work is in the lab, while the other part is clinical research and trials in clinic.

To achieve our goals, we are looking for a well experienced, enthusiastic and a diligent research scholar, with following details-

Occupational Summary

Understand, learn, perform and lead a variety of technical and scientific experiments involved in immune and microbial metabolomics research. An ideal candidate is one who has at least two years’ experience in lab research, preferably in immunology, metabolomics, microbiome, or a combination of these. Proficiency with mice work is a requirement. The candidate should demonstrate scientific acumen, initiative and be able to brainstorm roadblocks. 

Further, the candidate will need to participate in clinical trials to accrue patients , consent them and collect samples. We are willing to train the candidate in clinical research.

Work Performed

Perform a variety of technical and scientific task involved in conducting physical, chemical or biological tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data in support of research-oriented activities, compile and document procedures and results. The scholar should also be able to supervise other research tech and less experienced staff in lab.

Further, the candidate will take a very part in clinical trials and clinical research.

 

Approximate breakdown of work-

30%-Clinical research

  • Consent patients, call patients, collect samples and process it.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of consent and other clinical variables .
  • Follow IRB and IACUC regulatory guidelines and training.
  • Conduct all procedures associated with patient accrual to clinical studies, in a timely fashion.

 

40%

• Mice studies including germ free and specific pathogen free mice -all aspects including but not limited to cell line culture, expansion., injection to mice, tumor size, oral gavages, euthanasia, tumor and tissue collection, mice breeding, weaning etc.

• Processing of human and mice samples- blood, tissue, fecal pellets.

• Single cell suspension prep, PCR, Western blot ,flow cytometry, ELISA (willing to train)

• Experiments may include fecal microbiota transfer to mice. (willing to train)

 

10%

• Writing IUCUC and IRB protocols.

• Help with abstract and manuscript writing.

 

20%

• Ordering supplies
• Undergo necessary training to accomplish the tasks required.

• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

 

More importantly, taking the initiative and being dedicated is vital.

At least one year of full-time lab research experience or clinical trial experience is preferred. Experience and motivation will be prioritized over educational qualification.
