Occupational Summary
Classification created to permit compensation to individuals performing scholastic research on Campus and in the Medical Center using University facilities without detailed supervision. The use of this classification is reserved for those who have either received a doctorate or have demonstrated equivalent professional attainment. This classification is administered on Campus through the Office of the Provost and in the Medical Center through the Office of the Chancellor for Health Affairs. It is not subject to the Wage and Salary system.

Work Performed
The candidate will be involved in the department's research activities as follows:
1) Study mechanisms of chronic pain in animal models of acute and chronic pain.
2) Conduct experiments using behavioral, cellular, molecular, and genetic approaches.
3) Develop novel therapeutics for the control of pain and cancer.
4) Participate in the project discussions of Dr. Ji’s funded NIH and DoD grants.
5) Analyze data and prepare manuscripts with authorship.
6) Present data in the national and international meetings.
7) Apply for federal, regional, and industry grants, when applicable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Min Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: Visiting scholar engaging in temporary research at Duke.
