Occupational Summary
The Research Data Tech II I will support the research program of Sana Syed, MD, MS, MSCR, whose work focuses on understanding gut structure and function in common pediatric gastrointestinal diseases using machine learning and artificial intelligence methods. The Syed Lab aims to personalize diagnostic and treatment strategies for children with chronic GI disease by identifying improved biomarkers, novel drug targets, and predictive disease signatures. This work contributes to the broader mission of the Duke Department of Pediatrics and Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center to advance child health through collaborative care, education, innovative research, and community service.
Job Responsibilities
Study Operations
· Perform a variety of complex and independent activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and interpretation of social, economic or health related information.
· Assists with managing investigational products including arrival, storage, and handling (requisitions, inventory, and reordering).
· Helps to develop data entry tool forms such as in RedCap for study data entry under supervision.
· Under supervision (with goal for independence) collects information from sources including the EHR to assist study team in determining eligibility.
· Under supervision, employs simple procedures for collecting, preparing, processing, shipping, and maintaining inventory of specimens.
· Prepares necessary documents, equipment, supplies, etc. in compliance with the protocol.
· Develop forms and questionnaires and coordinate the application of research techniques.
· Confer with principal investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
· Supervise the work of lower level employees engaged in the collection and tabulation of data; train new personnel.
· Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Data Responsibilities
· Enter and collect basic data for research studies.
· Score scripted or validated tests and measures as appropriate.
· Respond to data queries generated by a CRO or data manager under supervision.
· Assist with quality control and data cleaning tasks as directed.
· Correct and document incomplete, inaccurate, or missing data for non-complex studies under supervision.
· Follow SOPs and required processes to ensure data quality, security, and provenance.
· Apply knowledge of data-standards policies in daily work.
· Learn and adopt new technologies as required for study operations.
· Assist in preparing tables, data visualizations, and lay summaries to communicate study results to participants under supervision.
· Support updates to reports and presentations on study progress for the PI, study team, and collaborators.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training:
Work requires a bachelor's degree in a related field
Experience:
Work requires two years of experience in research/data analysis or related position.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $19.06 to USD $28.85.
