Occupational Summary

This position will work primary remotely.  Candidates will need to come into the office in Durham, North Carolina, for quarterly meetings  and to support specific training events.

Provide expert consultation, analysis, facilitation, research and project management in all areas related to the education, training and development of employees of a Duke Department or organization in the areas of research administration and finance.

Creates and distributes various reports related to training status to business units and corporate partners.

Serves as an administrator for the Finance website and has primary responsibility for content development and maintenance for all needs for the Office of Education for Research Administration. 

 

Work Performed

  • Leverage research administration knowledge and experience as well as engage functional experts to develop education, training and development models determining the education, training and development needs that link directly to organizational business objectives while ensuring financial and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with university partners to develop guiding principles, strategies and plans; conduct comprehensive needs assessments; determine education, training and development priorities based on assessed needs, business impact and available resources.
  • Coordinate existing training programs and provide consultation to managers for development of job-specific training.
  • Design, conduct and broker the delivery of training programs from a variety of resources; research, evaluate and select outside consultants and trainers to meet training needs as appropriate.
  • Foster relationships with internal departmental liaisons to promote a collaborative and communicative environment. Establish relationships with key partners among the university community.
  • Develop the administrative framework required to support education, training, and development programs and initiatives; formulate policies, procedures and schedules to support education and training operations and initiatives.   Primary focus of this work will be for research certification programs.  Work includes building advance training materials for inclusion in the various Duke learning management systems.   
  • Develop methods, procedures and systems to support learning initiatives and records maintenance; evaluate and measure the effectiveness of training and development programs.
  • Organize, facilitate, and administer instructor-led training hosted via Zoom.
  • Conduct research, collect data and write reports to support the timeliness, accuracy and quality of training materials in support of research administration compliance requirements, policy, operational processes, and systems.
  • Support reporting needs for the Office of Education for Reach Administration and Finance.  This work includes status reporting for research certification programs, reporting for annual tier advancement process, and other reporting needs as necessary pulling data from SAP and various LMS systems. 
  • Serves as an administrator for the Finance website and provides support to content editors across Finance.  Updates web content, provides access to new content editors, coordinates activity with OIT Web Services, performs routine audits, and communicates with content editors. Assumes primary responsibility for updating OERAF material on the Finance website and myRESEARCHpath.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires completion of a Bachelor's degree.  Four years of research administration or training experience may be substituted for a degree.    

Experience

Work requires a minimum of five years of experience in a research administration role. Three to five years of experience with the design, delivery and evaluation of business-related education, training and/or development programs in a research environment is required. Grants and contract management experience and SAP experience is preferred.   

Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft suite
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Experience working and building Access database preferred
  • Experience extracting data for specialized reporting
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal
