As a Research Associate, Senior, your research will focus on elucidating the roles of the ATM protein kinase in cellular stress responses, particularly its roles in metabolic processes and mitochondrial function. This task requires the expertise of a Ph.D. scientist who is well-trained and experienced in molecular, cellular, and physiological biology and biochemistry. Among the prior experiences should be the generation and study of mouse models of human disease.  As you possess all of these qualifications you are uniquely positioned to complete this research project. In addition, you will be playing the role of “laboratory manager” helping to facilitate setting up and running the laboratory, including direct supervision of technicians in the lab and support of the work of students and post-doctoral fellows.

Classification created to permit compensation to individuals performing research on Campus and in the Medical Center using University facilities without detailed supervision. Incumbents may guide the research of others and participate, to a limited degree, in classroom instruction. The use of this classification is reserved for those whose professional stature is equivalent to that of a full professor and may be used only with the approval of the Academic Appointments Sub-Group of the Academic Council. This classification is administered on Campus through the Office of the Provost and in the Medical Center through the Office of the Chancellor for Health Affairs. It is not subject to the Wage and Salary system.

 

Work Performed

Min Degree Requirements:  Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
Other Credential/Experiential Requirements:  The appointee must have greater than 5 years of postdoctoral training..

Standard cell biology and molecular biology techniques, including:

•              Maintaining tissue culture cells within BSL2 guidelines

•              Experience with protein extraction, Western analysis and immunoprecipitation

•              DNA and RNA isolation and analyses, esp RT-PCR

•              Cloning experience strongly preferred

•              Cell /infection transfection, CRISPR and selections experience preferred

•              Microscopy, cell survival assays

•              Maintaining mouse colonies
