Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of complex and independent activities involved in planning, organizing and conducting research studies within the overall scope of a research project at Duke University.

Fully grant funded: A One Year Appointment with possible renewal 

Work Performed

Perform cell and molecular biology experiments
General laboratory management
Perform physiological and behavioral tests in rodents and humans
Analyze data, prepare graphs and figures, present results in meetings
Design experiments, write SOPs, train laboratory personnel on general procedures
Perform and assist with surgeries, animal handling, transport, and care
Dissect rodents and process biological samples
Perform advanced histology, biochemical assays, and biophysics experiments
Write IACUC and OESO protocols, maintain updated laboratory notebook and research records

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a bachelor's degree in a field related to the specific position.

Experience

Work requires two years of experience in research/data analysis or related position.

OR A MASTERS DEGREE IN LIEU OF EXPERIENCE

Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge, experience, and proficiency working with rodents
Knowledge, experience, and proficiency with cell culture, molecular biology techniques (e.g., protein assays, mRNA, omics, site-directed mutagenesis, transfection), and biochemical assays
Knowledge, experience, and proficiency in histology and microscopy
General computer software, data analysis, and reporting skills (e.g., MS Office, GraphPad, JMP, R, Matlab)
Willingness and ability to meet deadlines and work in a complex and fast-paced environment
Ability to answer research questions and solve technical problems independently and with support from co-workers and supervisor
Follow protocols, SOPs, and maintain documentation of laboratory and administrative procedures in an organized and reproducible manner
Willing and able to learn and implement new techniques and adapt to the needs of research projects and laboratory
Work independently and as a part of a research team
