The Duke Global Health Innovation Center (Duke GHIC), and its partner organization, Innovations in Healthcare (IiH), have a shared vision of a world where innovation improves health for all. Duke GHIC is a center within Duke University, linking health innovation, health policy, and global health efforts across Duke to improve health. Duke GHIC partners closely with Innovations in Healthcare, a Duke-affiliated non-profit that works with over 100 healthcare innovators in more than 90 countries as well as public and private sector organizations to scale the impact of the world’s leading innovations. Together, Duke GHIC and IiH improve access to quality, affordable healthcare worldwide and bring best-in-class capabilities in curating, scaling, and studying health innovations around the world while providing an interface to experts and students across the university.
Duke GHIC is part of the Duke Global Health Institute, which brings together knowledge and resources from across Duke to address the most important global health issues of our time, and collaborates closely with the Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy, which catalyzes Duke University's leading capabilities including interdisciplinary academic research and capacity for education and engagement, to inform policy making and implementation for better health and healthcare.
Occupational Summary
Duke GHIC and IiH seek a detail-oriented, proactive, and resourceful Research Analyst I to support Duke GHIC/IiH sponsored programs. The Research Analyst I is responsible for supporting research activities, including planning, organizing, conducting, and communicating research studies. This position is 100% paid from grants/externally-sponsored funding sources, and as such, employment is limited to available funding.
We are seeking individuals who have experience or interest in impacting change in the following organizational goal areas:
- Scaling Impact of Integrated Innovations: supporting the scale-up of innovations that lead to whole-person, integrated delivery systems
- Accelerating End-to-End Access to Biomedical Innovation: strengthening the evidence base for equitable and sustainable global access to biomedical innovations (e.g. vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, etc.) and enabling impactful access to health programs across life sciences organizations
- Empowering Health Leaders: empowering health leaders and change agents to translate insights into changes in policy and decisions; engaging diverse learners, expanding professional education, and integrating capacity-strengthening into programs

It is preferred that this candidate be available for in-person work in Durham, NC, for 1-2 days per week and any other times when required for job responsibilities (e.g. supporting meetings and events, handling building logistics, etc.). Some duties of this role can be performed at home if the candidate can maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and can work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools.
Work Performed
A Research Analyst I is sought to support the knowledge and research agenda for a portfolio of high-profile, externally-funded programs, in particular those oriented to accelerating equitable access to biomedical innovations, such as vaccines, drugs, devices, diagnostics, etc. In coordination with and under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Programs, and the Principal Investigator, the successful candidate will support the knowledge and research agenda, including but not limited to the following duties:
Research Design and Implementation (90%)
Support the overall knowledge and research agenda for various programs, including data collection, data analysis, writing, and research project management, to ensure successful execution.
Collaborate on the development of quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments, including surveys, interview guides, spreadsheet templates, and others.
Use various data collection methods (gray and white literature reviews, key informant interviews, internet searches, etc.) to obtain information on topics such as health products, regulatory process and approvals, country demand data, as well as qualitative insights from key stakeholders. Implement best practices for data management, quality, and security.
Use qualitative and quantitative analysis methods to evaluate and interpret collected data. Distill and synthesize collected data into key findings, insights, and recommendations.
Contribute to the development and dissemination of written research outputs, including reports, articles, white papers, case studies, presentations, journal articles, policy briefs, and blogs. Lead journal manuscript submission processes. Participate in webinars and events to share research insights.
Support securing ethical approvals, registrations, and compliance of studies involving human subjects research and data, including contributing to study protocols and managing IRB submissions, renewals, and amendments.
Research Administration (Coordination, Oversight and Mentoring) (10%)
Support the development and implementation of research work plans, timelines, and reporting to ensure that the project is successfully executed.
Supervise and manage the efforts of student interns and other analysts, as needed, including training in the data collection methodology and quality assurance of the data and analysis.
Travel to and represent Duke GHIC and IiH at international and domestic events and conferences, to share our work and learn about relevant activities in the field to inform our research agenda and organizational priorities
Experience and training requested:
An ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis; excellent writing skills; be knowledgeable in areas of global health, health products (e.g. vaccines, drugs, devices, etc.), biopharma, and/or epidemiology; and have awareness of or experience in the development and implementation of research in a low- or middle-income country setting. Demonstrated success supporting multiple research studies, and authorship on published reports, blogs, conference abstracts, and peer-reviewed papers is highly desirable. Experience working with the private sector, including life sciences companies is also preferred.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health or Global Health). A master's degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred.

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $50,439.00 to USD $76,417.00.
