Duke Recreation & Physical Education is hiring Guest Services Attendants and Facility Monitors to join our team at Wilson Recreation Center starting Fall 2025. We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable team members who can commit to working 12 to 19.9 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Basic computer skills

  • At least 1 year of experience in customer service or public-facing roles

  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days

  • Ability to attend mandatory training sessions (typically 2 per semester)

  • Comfort interacting with diverse populations

  • Independent judgment and strong problem-solving skills

  • Flexible schedule availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

 

Job Responsibilities

Guest Services Attendant

  • Greet members and guests at facility entrances and exits

  • Verify Duke IDs and guest passes for facility access

  • Monitor facility entry and exit traffic

  • Answer questions or refer users to appropriate staff

  • Register guests and collect electronic waivers

  • Maintain the Lost & Found in an organized manner

  • Confirm and review daily facility reservations

  • Manage equipment loans and returns

  • Promote a welcoming, clean, and safe environment

  • Support anti-racism and inclusion goals of Duke and the department

  • Uphold Duke policies on anti-racism and discrimination

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Facility Monitor

  • Assist front desk and weight room staff as needed

  • Patrol facility to check doors, alarms, locker rooms, and bathrooms

  • Monitor cleanliness of cardio areas and equipment

  • Ensure members comply with wristband and locker use policies

  • Enforce facility policies and procedures

  • Support front desk during high-traffic times

  • Execute opening and closing procedures

  • Respond to emergencies (e.g., accidents, weather)

  • Set up activity areas for internal and external events

  • Provide excellent customer service

  • Collaborate with other team members to meet department goals

  • Promote a safe and inclusive space for all

 

All new hires will be trained in both Guest Services Attendant and Facility Monitor duties.

 

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $18.00 – $22.42 (based on experience and qualifications)

Education
