JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Program Specialist to run two health promotion programs, Bull City Fit and the North Duke Street Food Market affiliated with Duke Children’s and Internal Medicine (DCIM) clinic. Bull City Fit is a fitness program for children and families seen in the Duke pediatric obesity clinic (Healthy Lifestyles).  It is located at a Parks and Recreation facility and provides patient programming on weekday evenings and Saturdays afternoons.  The Program Specialist runs operations for the Bull City Fit program which includes creating program activities for patients, recruitment and enrollment of families, supervising the volunteer participants, oversight of budget, and running analytics on program performance and implementing improvements to the program. The Bull City Fit Specialist should be able and willing to engage directly with children in physical activities and have strong interest in working with disadvantaged populations.

The North Duke Street Food Market is an on-site food pantry for patients and families served by DCIM in partnership with the NC Food Bank. The Program Specialist is responsible for coordination of Duke’s relationships with the NC Food Bank including logistical oversight, budget management, and compliance requirements. Specialist additionally performs analytics on food market utilization and patient feedback to make innovations and improvements in the food delivery model and assist with grant applications and annual reports to maintain funding for the Food Market.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Bull City Fit Program – Owner of the program for DCIM in partnership with Durham Parks and Recreation, sets direction of program and oversees all operations of the program to include:

  • Recruit and train volunteers from Duke and area universities
  • Supervise volunteers to ensure proper training, coverage, and provide feedback
  • Create daily programming and facilitate activities for participants serving as lead on-site staff
  • Manage the program’s curriculum
  • Maintain inventory of program supplies
  • Oversee the community partnership with Durham Parks and Recreation and serve as primary liaison
  • Manage enrollment of new patients/members into the program
  • Oversee communication with participant families, including email and the program’s social media accounts
  • Manage the budget for Bull City Fit and process purchasing expenses
  • Perform data analytics on program utilization and outcomes and use this data to implement program improvements
  • Facilitate in grant applications and reports to ensure ongoing success and growth of the program

 

North Duke Street Food Market – Owner of the program for DCIM, sets direction and oversees all operations of the program to include:

  • Manage the budget and food ordering to ensure an adequate supply of nutritious food for clinic patients and families.
  • Leads collaboration with the NC Food Bank leadership for the practice including keeping up to date on training, protocols, site visits and reporting requirements. 
  • Coordinate volunteers for food deliveries and assists with properly stocking shelves to ensure compliance and safety standards met.
  • Primary liaison with clinic staff and volunteers to ensure daily operational support.
  • Assist with selection of food bag contents to ensure well balanced, nutritional support for high risk patients and families.
  • Perform data analytics on utilization, staff and patient feedback to make improvements to program
  • Investigate novel community partnerships to grow and expand food offerings and opportunities for patients
  • Assist with grant applications and grant reports to ensure sustained funding for the program 

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program with one year of experience in program administration or event production.

  • Or two years of postsecondary education with three years of experience in program administration or event production.

  • OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with some weeday evening hours and Saturday afternoons.
