JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Program Coordinator to partner and participate in building a comprehensive obesity care program. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of obesity management, bariatric surgery, program development, and patient engagement strategies. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary care, managing program logistics, and ensuring the highest quality of patient care.  Considering the growth potential, the roles and responsibilities of the Program Coordinator are subject to change. 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with the Medical Director for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery, and the Duke Obesity Steering Committee to develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive obesity programs, including surgical, medical, and preventative interventions.

  • Coordinate efforts to create collaboration within bariatric surgery and obesity medicine across all disciplines represented within the Duke Obesity Steering Committee. Manage multidisciplinary teams including dietitians, exercise physiologists, behavioral therapists, and medical professionals.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations within the bariatric surgery and, with time, obesity medicine clinics to ensure optimal patient experience and efficient patient throughput.

  • Manage program logistics, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budget management. Maintain accurate program documentation and processes.

  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement and patient satisfaction.

  • Develop, adapt, and implement standard work to improve patient navigation for bariatric surgery and obesity medicine.

  • Work with EPIC Maestro Care partners to develop and complete electronic medical record builds and optimizations to improve provider efficiencies.

  • Manage marketing efforts with DHTS to improve access to care for patients with obesity and improve patient experience.

  • Facilitate patient education initiatives, support groups, and wellness activities.

  • Collaborate with community organizations to promote obesity care services and resources.

  • Lead a Duke Health values-driven culture to engender strong advocacy for patients and team members. Provide leadership and support to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment

 

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. 
  • Work requires three years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.

  • OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth knowledge of obesity care, including preventive, medical, and surgical approaches.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, staff, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in healthcare software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems. EPIC knowledge and experience is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights to improve program outcomes.
  • Certification in obesity care or related field (e.g., Certified Obesity Management Specialist) is a plus.

 

JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
