The Patel Laboratory has an opening for a Postdoctoral Associate in Lung Transplant Immunology and Senescence at the Duke University School of Medicine. We are seeking a motivated person to research the mechanisms of, and interventions for, immuno-senescence and aging in lung transplantation using high-throughput multi-‘omic approaches, primary cell culture systems, and animal models of transplantation.

Ph.D. graduates (or people about to graduate) with interest in this topic are encouraged to apply. Our lab is a training environment; we are primarily interested in recruiting people who love science and are willing to put in the work to achieve their goals.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.)

Preferred Qualifications:.

  • Detail-oriented, very well organized, and approach laboratory procedures with critical thinking.
  • Strong initiative and eagerness to learn.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills.
  • Must adhere to strict safety requirements.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a dynamic group environment. 

Other Requirements:

This position is onsite. The work is performed on-site or at a designated assignment location.

This position is for one year with extensions contingent on continued funding, performance, and needs of the lab.

The candidate will work closely team members and is expected to independently perform daily activities which include, but may not be limited to:

  • Maintenance of a laboratory notebook and/or other comparable records of research activity, which remains the property of Duke University upon termination.
  • Monitor progress of research projects and coordinate with Principal Investigator and Program team to stay on budget and schedule to meet the milestones and deliverables.
  • Follow standards of responsible conduct in research.
  • Comply with good scholarly and research practice.
  • Adhere to University standards regarding use of isotopes, chemicals, infectious agents, animals, human subjects, and the like.
  • Comply with all applicable University and Department of Surgery policies and procedures.
