DMPI Gupta Lab Postdoctoral Associate:

Duke School of Medicine’s interdisciplinary Duke Molecular Physiology Institute (DMPI), is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Gupta Lab. The Postdoctoral Associate position offers an opportunity to conduct mentored pre-clinical basic science research in the endocrine research laboratory led by Dr. Rana Gupta, with a focus on diabetes, obesity, and tissue remodeling. Projects center on the biological activities of adipose tissue stem/progenitor cells and how they regulate adipose tissue expansion and remodeling in the setting of obesity. The research program spans basic science models, including primary tissues and mouse models, as well as translational clinical research.

Qualified candidates will have a strong record of training in biomedical research leading to a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree, excellent oral and written communication skills, hands-on experience in mouse metabolic physiology, demonstrated expertise in cell and molecular biology, and a publication record commensurate with career stage.

Postdoctoral Associates are expected to work closely with other members of the Gupta laboratory to carry out all aspects of their assigned projects and to interact regularly with Dr. Gupta to develop study protocols, analyze data, and prepare manuscripts for publication.

In addition, Postdoctoral Associates are expected to perform the following activities:

  • Conduct an independent research project centered on hypotheses developed jointly with the PI(s)
  • Collaborate on additional research projects led by other members of the laboratory
  • Assist with training graduate students, technicians, and other laboratory members, as needed
  • Participate in the writing and development of grant proposals to support research
  • Present research findings at local and national scientific meetings
  • Compile data and communicate findings through research manuscripts
