- On-call every 4th weekend
General Description of the Job Class
As a member of the pharmacy leadership team, this coordinator oversees drug distribution and delivery from the inpatient operations pharmacy and leads the Duke Health Pharmacy Technology Training Program. The role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, some of which are outlined below.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
- Management of all aspects of day-to-day drug distribution and delivery services including staff scheduling, inventory handling, safety monitoring and technology oversight to ensure timely and accurate delivery of medications to our patients.
- Responsible for the supervision of team members, which may consist of pharmacy technicians, and ensures appropriate training of staff in their job functions.
- Serves as the Director of the Duke Health Pharmacy Technology Training Program, with responsibility for the program’s quality, strategic direction, and the management of HR and administrative matters related to program students.
- Works collaboratively with peers and other healthcare professionals to achieve division, departmental and institutional goals.
- Coordinates division staff meetings and ensures timely dissemination of information to staff through multiple avenues.
- Ensures that divisional services and practices align with established policies and procedures, comply with regulatory requirements (e.g., TJC, BOP, DEA, USP), and reflect best practice recommendations (e.g., ISMP).
- Assists with Human Resources relevant matters, including recruiting, promotion, retention and discipline.
- Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth.
- Represent and support the pharmacy department’s commitment to excellence through active participation on intra- and interdepartmental committees and teams
- Engages in educational activities such as precepting students and residents
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree, or, BS Pharmacy Degree, and eligible for license as a Pharmacist by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
- MBA or MS in Health System Pharmacy preferred.
Experience
- Two years of pharmacy practice experience required.
- Three years of experience as a pharmacist preferred
- Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or equivalent experience is strongly preferred and PGY2 Specialty Residency in area of specialty is strongly preferred.
- Managerial or supervisor experience, if applicable, is preferred.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
- Licensed Pharmacist or eligible to practice pharmacy in North Carolina.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required for employment.
- Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) in the area of specialty, if applicable, is strongly preferred.
