JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN in our Duke Triangle Endoscopy Center clinic located in Durham, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies and equipment for diagnostic, therapeutic and research procedures.
- Confer with patients to obtain information for chart and laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation; ensure completion of patients' laboratory tests prior to examination by physician.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens, taking vital signs and measurements, positioning patients and attaching equipment leads to specific body locations.
- Assist physicians and nursing personnel during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include handling instruments, calling out equipment readings and administering oxygen and opaque dyes; alert physician to patient discomfort.
- Operate equipment such as polygraphs, magnetic and video tape recorders and X-ray machines to monitor and obtain recordings of specific body functions; calculate, compile and record data obtained from graphs and numerical readings.
- Operate manual and automatic laboratory equipment to make qualitative and quantitative analyses of specimens.
- Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; clean and sterilize instruments, supplies and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of supplies; reorder as required.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Work requires completion of a related 1 year technical school program.
- Work generally requires two years of experience in health care specialties related to the specific position; two years additional years’ related experience may be substituted for the technical school OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
