The Department of Surgery is seeking a detail-oriented Project Planner II to join our Surgery Research Development team. This role will utilize appropriate project management process, tools, and methodology to track and facilitate the conduct of research projects. Work with Duke’s team of individual contributors and PIs to manage risks and limitations, including significant collaboration with the grants and regulatory teams to manage project budgets, personnel effort, and compliance. This position will report to the Director of Research Development.

  • This position is hybrid eligible. The position is partially remote, and the employee must reside in a Duke University-approved state.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree. Additional training in Project Management coursework or certification in Project Management is desired.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in project management, including complex projects involving multiple functional groups.
  • Experience in medical education/publishing, clinical research, or medical product development is desired. Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree. Additional training in Project Management coursework or certification in Project Management is desired.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in project management, including complex projects involving multiple functional groups.
  • Experience in medical education/publishing, clinical research, or medical product development is desired. Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Position Description:

  • Work with research team members to plan work assignments to maintain research project timeline and achieve milestones. Identify and coordinate resources to maintain timely progress towards milestone completion.
  • Work with other research support teams (e.g., Grants & Contracts, Substrate Services, Data Management) to track and monitor projects and adjust management plans as necessary.
  • Consult with the PM Scientific Program Leader to identify needs for upcoming projects, strategize about project start-up, and conduct stakeholder meetings with research support teams and other key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate and provide regular project updates to PIs and research teams. Use routine reports to draft and prepare reports for the sponsor (e.g., annual reports, quarterly reports)
  • Meet 1:1 with principal investigators (PIs) to review project progress, adjust plans, and discuss upcoming activities.
  • Engage with relevant professional organizations (e.g., PMI Global Summit and Regional Meetings) to learn about new tools and best practices for PM in academic research.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education

Bachelor's degree. Additional training in Project Management coursework or certification in Project Management is desired.

 

Experience

Four years of progressively responsible experience in project management, including complex projects involving multiple functional groups. Experience in medical education/publishing, clinical research, or medical product development is desired. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $77,898.00 to USD $124,598.00.
