Occupational Summary

Conduct research activities within the Duke Center for In Vivo Microscopy (CIVM), under the guidance of a faculty mentor in preparation for a full-time academic or research career.


The CIVM is one of the oldest preclinical imaging facilities in the US. Current work includes technical developments in MR histology with specific focus on quantitative connectomic imaging of the rodent brain.


Work Performed

The initial appointment will be for one (1) year, with opportunities for extension based upon performance and funding.


The Postdoctoral appointee will fulfill the following primary duties:

  • Develop the analysis pipeline and methodologies for merging the light sheet data with the MR data.
  • Work with Dr. Johnson in the registration protocols that will: a) coregister the light sheet and MR data; b) apply the CCF labels to the light sheet images; c) develop the strategies and scripts in Imaris to extract the quantitative measures of cell density from the light sheet images.
  • Work with Mr. Cook in integrating the results into the digital reports for translation to GeneNetwork


This appointment is not part of a clinical training program, unless research training under the supervision of a senior mentor is the primary purpose of the appointment. 


Appointees are expected to drive efforts to publish our results; the Postdoctoral Appointee is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment.

Required Qualifications at this Level



Minimum Requirement: PhD in biomedical engineering, computer science or a relatedfield or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).  PhD in neuroscience preferred.

*Candidates with non-US degrees may be required to provide proof of degree equivalency.

*If a postdoctoral fellow has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred.
