Postdoctoral Associate – Experimental Cardiac Arrest and Immunology
A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Multidisciplinary Brain Protection Program (MBPP), Department of Anesthesiology, Duke University Medical Center. The on-going projects use various murine models of cardiac arrest and ischemic stroke for basic and translational research. We apply a wide spectrum of approaches, including advanced molecular and immunologic methods, state-of-the-art functional in vivo imaging, sophisticated genetically modified mouse models, and modern rodent behavioral tests.
The main project for this position is to investigate the complex immune response after cardiac arrest and resuscitation, and then to explore new immunomodulatory interventions to improve outcome after cardiac arrest, especially neuroprognostication. Self-motivated individuals – who recently obtained a PhD or MD degree – are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is expected to have a strong background in immunology with proficient skills in immunologic techniques, such as flow cytometry and ELISA. Prior experience in mouse surgery and behavioral testing is highly desirable.
The applicants must be creative and capable of designing, conducting, and troubleshooting experiments independently, as well as working with interdisciplinary research teams in a highly professional manner. The candidate will be expected to work on several projects in parallel, develop novel ideas in line with the lab projects, analyze data, write manuscripts, and also assist in data collection for manuscripts and grant applications. It is expected that the candidate can follow instructions from the PI and be responsive to research plans in a timely fashion. Moreover, the candidate must have a strong commitment to research and scientific ethics. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative and dynamic environment with outstanding resources to promote innovative research. The PI will work closely with the postdoc for her/his productivity and success.
