Duke University Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Post-Doctoral Associate to join our interdisciplinary team focused on developing computational models of the immune response for multi-scale epidemic models. This position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates interested in applying quantitative and computational methods to biomedical research, particularly in immunology.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong knowledge of differential equations and applied mathematical modeling.
  • Proficiency in at least one scientific programming language (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, Julia).
  • Demonstrated interest in biological applications, particularly immunology.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior research experience in computational biology, mathematical modeling, or immunology.
  • Familiarity with numerical methods, parameter estimation, and data visualization.
  • Some knowledge of probability and statistics.

  • Develop and analyze mathematical models (primarily ODEs, but also PDEs and stochastic models) of viral replication and immune processes.
  • Implement simulations and perform computational experiments using high-level programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, or Julia).
  • Curate and integrate experimental data to calibrate and validate models, including parameter estimation and uncertainty quantification.
  • Work collaboratively with experimentalists and data scientists.
  • Prepare code, figures, and documentation for publications and presentations.
