Postdoctoral Associate
Job Description:
An open Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Achanta Lab for a highly motivated individual with a strong interest to study pulmonary diseases following toxic chemical exposures. Funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the Achanta laboratory seek to develop medical countermeasures and identify biomarkers of chemical inhalation exposures. We use in vitro, rodent, and non-rodent models to achieve our study objectives. We will employ various techniques/methods such as ELISA, multiplex MSD panel assays, flow cytometry, bulk and single cell sequencing, proteomic approaches, and cardiopulmonary physiological readouts. Extensive training in the above techniques will be provided. The work may require occasional late-evening and weekend visits to the lab for administration of drugs and assessing animal welfare.
The Achanta lab, which is overseen by a mentorship compact, will offer instruction and guidance in career planning, scientific writing, grantsmanship, outreach and communication, and successful presenting at scientific events. The position is renewable for a long-term contingent upon merit evaluation and funding situation.
Education/Experience:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D.., D.V.M.) in Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Toxicology, Veterinary Sciences or related fields.

While we are open to fresh graduates, preference will be given to candidates with 2+ years of postdoctoral experience conducting scientific research. Prior working experience in pulmonary animal models and above listed laboratory techniques/approaches is preferred.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred.
Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: The incumbent must be a true post-doctoral fellow registered with the Post Doc Office and per the following requirements:
· The term of this appointment is limited (5 years with a possible extension for an additional year)
· The appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, which may include teaching responsibilities.
· The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full-time academic or research career.
· The appointment is not part of a clinical research training program, unless research training under the supervision of a senior mentor is a primary purpose of the appointment.
· The appointee works under the supervision of a scholar or a department at Duke University.
· The appointee has the freedom and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment.
