The Department of Dermatology within Duke’s School of Medicine has an opening for a Postdoctoral Associate. The position is located on – site at 3 Genome Court, Durham, N.C.

 

Min Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred.

The incumbent will perform the following tasks:

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable computational pipelines for multi-omics data, including bulk/single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, metagenomics, metabolomics, and potentially other omics layers using high-performance computing environments.

• Perform raw data processing, quality control, multi-modal data integration, and downstream analyses across diverse datasets (e.g., host transcriptome, microbial gene catalogs, spatial maps). • Lead host–microbiome interaction studies by integrating immune, epithelial, spatial, and microbial profiles to uncover key regulators of inflammation and tissue remodeling in gut and skin diseases.

• Apply and refine AI/ML methods, including deep learning, neural networks, and interpretable models (e.g., SHAP, BioMapAI) to discover multi-modal biomarkers, immune-microbe interaction modules, and spatially localized signatures associated with disease outcomes.

• Develop novel AI-driven frameworks to predict clinical phenotypes or treatment response based on high-dimensional omics data, incorporating temporal, spatial, and patient-specific features.

• Oversee data management, version-controlled codebases, and pipeline documentation to ensure reproducibility, cross-team collaboration, and scalable deployment.

• Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to guide experimental design, validate computational predictions with functional assays, and generate hypotheses for new biological discovery.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $62,000/year..
